Growing up on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Skye McKenzie spent most of her childhood playing make believe in her family’s wild garden or collecting shells on the beach. She made “fairy soup” from petals, performed ballets on the front lawn and spent hours lying back on the warm sand and gazing up at the clouds. Skye was (and still is), captivated by the pictures she could see in the clouds and the stories they could tell. The possibilities seemed endless yet the moments were fleeting and could be blurred across the blue sky in an instant, making room for another story to appear.

Skye was lucky to be surrounded by creative women. Her mother and grandmother taught Skye to sew and knit at a young age and there were always plenty of fabric scraps and pieces of lace for her to play with. “I have been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember and I am filled with gratitude for the creative upbringing I was given.”

Skye McKenzie studied graphic design at the University of Technology in Sydney and Central Saint Martins in London before a trip to India ignited her passion for textiles.

Skye has worked as a senior designer for one of Australia’s leading soft furnishings companies for 4 years. She loves working with colour, pattern and texture and seeing her designs come to life as products.

When it came time to find stationery for her wedding, it felt only natural for Skye to design it herself. She was pleasantly surprised by the reaction she received from friends and family and suddenly Skye had a queue of brides asking her to design stationery for their weddings too!
